Allen Iverson and Philadelphia pro sports fans are likely extremely familiar with the PointsBet Sportsbook app. Try watching a Phillies or Sixers game on the regional sports network without hearing the PointsBet name or seeing one of the commercials featuring A.I. It’s nearly impossible.

PointsBet, based out of Australia, is now a veteran in the NJ online sportsbook market where it’s famous for the unique PointsBetting option. Basically, a customer’s wins or losses vary based on the accuracy of a totals bet (our PointsBet review explains the process in more detail).

Also, users should know the Karma Kommittee meets every morning to correct any “injustices” that may have taken place from the previous night’s action. This unique feature offers frequent bettors some insurance against bad beats in the form of monthly Good Karma Refunds.

Additionally, bettors love PointsBet’s Early Payouts on futures wagers that are currently winning but not yet settled. MLB bettors can also take advantage of the single-game parlay promo as well.

Other Sports Betting Apps Available in New Jersey

Just because the operators listed above are our top choices, that does not mean they are the only ones. Residents of (and visitors to) The Garden State have many other choices as well, such as Hard Rock SportsbookFox Bet and Golden Nugget.

New options are being added all the time as well. Fubo Sportsbook New Jersey is one of the most recent operators to launch. Sports Illustrated Sportsbook is expected to be one of the next to launch.

If you want to try something a little different, you can go with Prophet Exchange Sportsbook New Jersey. Prophet Exchange operates as a peer-to-peer site. So, bettors provide their own odds and take on wagers against other users. Thus, the vig is much lower on Prophet Exchange, and the payouts are potentially higher.

How To Download a New Jersey Sports Betting App

The most popular way to bet at New Jersey online sportsbooks is via mobile app. All of our top NJ sports betting apps offer both an Apple iOS app and an Android app. The apps are available in the App Store and the Google Play store. The sportsbooks can also be accessed via web browser on your mobile device as well as on a computer.

New Jersey Sports Betting Apps For iOS

You can download an online sportsbook for iOS devices by following these steps:

  1. Search for the app in the App Store, or visit the sportsbook’s website to use their direct link.
  2. Make sure the app is for New Jersey players. Some online sportsbooks have separate apps for each state due to differing regulations.
  3. Download the app onto your Apple device.
  4. Join the app use the applicable New Jersey online sports betting bonus code.
  5. Place your bets, deposit money, and cash out, all through the mobile app.

Some bettors may find it easier to join via web browser on their computer, then download the app and log in to your account. This is especially true if you already have your payment methods and logins saved on your computer rather than iPhone or iPad.

New Jersey Sports Betting Apps For Android

The Google Play store used to restrict gambling apps. That’s no longer the case. However, some online sportsbooks still have bettors downloading the Android app directly from their website. So your best bet is to follow these steps to download the Android app:

  1. Visit the sportsbook’s website on your Android device.
  2. Use the direct link to the Google Play store, or download the Android app directly from the website. Some online sportsbooks offer both options.
  3. Join the sportsbook with your promo codes (the best sports betting bonuses are in New Jersey).
  4. Deposit funds, place bets, cash out, contact support, and so on, all through the mobile app.

New Jersey Sports Betting Via Web Browser

All New Jersey online sportsbooks are also available via web browser. This is particularly ideal for those who prefer to bet on their computer. The sportsbooks are accessible through all the major web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer.

Types of NJ Sports Betting Bonus Offers

As you can see above, NJ sports betting sites offer a wide variety of bonuses to win you over and get you started off on the right foot. For new bettors, and maybe even some experienced bettors, all of this lingo can prove to be a bit overwhelming. Below, we’ve broken down the most common types of bonus offers and what they mean.

Deposit Bonuses

These are some of the most straightforward and most rewarding bonuses you can earn. At their most basic level, they match a percentage of the deposit you make. For example, the DraftKings Sportsbook welcome offer gives bettors a 20% deposit match up to $1,000 on your first deposit. That means if you deposit $100, you’ll receive $20 extra to play with. These bonuses, along with most others, require you to play through your bonus funds before being able to withdraw them. Make sure to check the individual sportsbook’s terms and conditions to determine the playthrough rate before making your deposit.

No-Deposit Bonuses

No-deposit bonuses are some of the best NJ online sports betting bonuses available — not because of the amount (they’re usually smaller than other types of bonuses), but because you don’t need to deposit to claim them. That makes it a no-brainer to claim these whenever they become available.

2nd Chance Bets

These bonuses allow bettors to wager on their favorite sports without worrying so much about a loss. They start with you wagering your own money, but if you lose your bet, you’ll receive a percentage of that bet (usually 100%) back in the form of bonus bets. PointsBet, for example, actually gives you five 2nd chance bets: one daily up to to $50 for five days – good for any fixed odds wager.

How To Bet Using NJ Sportsbooks

To get started, all you’ve got to do is sign up for your sportsbook of choice (and make sure to take advantage of our exclusive sign-up offers when you do so). Getting started with sports betting in NJ is as easy as that.

Once you’re in, NJ sports betting sites essentially offer almost any type of bet for you to dive into — the one caveat here is that you cannot wager on in-state college schools or college events taking place in-state. Beyond that, New Jersey bettors pretty much have free rein once they’ve registered and verified their details. NJ betting apps offer over a thousand betting lines every day that cover all major US sports, international events, and many novelty events, such as the Oscars.

What Sports Can You Bet On At New Jersey Sportsbooks?

Besides the big US sports leagues (MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL), NJ sports betting enthusiasts have access to a wide range of sports including UFC, boxing, golf, tennis, soccer (MLS, World Cup), college football, and college basketball.

For those interested in placing wagers on non-athletic contests, there are also markets for the Academy Awards, the NFL Draft, Super Bowl props, the Olympics, and even the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest.

If you’re looking to bet on horse racing, you can also do that legally in NJ.

Major Sports Betting Events In NJ February 2024

Keep track of what’s happening at NJ online sportsbooks and retail locations for the big betting events of February 2024 and beyond:

Types Of Bets Offered On NJ Sports Betting Apps

NJ sports betting sites offer every type of bet, so bettors of all levels will have something to choose from. Below, we’ll go over each one, but let’s start with a simple list of every type of bet available on NJ sports betting apps:

  • Moneyline
  • Points Spread
  • Totals (Over/Under)
  • Parlays
  • Prop Bets (Team & Player)
  • Futures
  • In-Game/Live Betting

In order to take full advantage of these bets, you’ll need to understand how sports betting odds work. We go into more detail about them below.

How To Calculate A Sportsbook Payout

Sports betting odds at US sportsbooks are calculated using American odds, which can look confusing to a newcomer. Once you understand them, however, they’re very clear and straightforward.

If you want a quick way to figure out how much you’ll win before you place a wager, and don’t want to use a calculator yourself, you can use an online sportsbook’s betslip to calculate your potential win for you. Simply open the app, select the bet, and type in any stake. Once you’ve done that, it will show you how much you stand to win. You can then submit the bet, adjust it, or pick out something else. Alternatively, you can type in how much you want to win, and the sportsbook will auto-fill the wager amount, all without actually placing the wager.

American Odds, Explained

American odds are represented by either a plus (+) number or a minus (-) number. At its most basic level, a plus number means your winnings will be more than your wager. The minus number means your winnings will be less than your wager. Either way, if you win the bet, you receive your wager back plus the winnings. The only exception to this is if you place a wager using a free bet, in which case you’ll only receive your winnings back since the original bet was placed using bonus funds. The bottom line is that you never lose money if you win a sports bet.

More specifically, the plus number represents the winnings on a $100 bet. If the odds are +100, that means you’d win $100 on a $100 bet (for a $200 total payout). If the odds are +200, you’d win $200 on a $100 bet. Keep in mind that the $100 bet is just an indicator. You can bet as little as $1 or as much as $100,000+ in NJ online sports betting.

The minus number represents how much you’d need to bet to win $100. So, if you see -110 odds (the standard NFL points spread odds), that means you’d need to bet $110 to win $100. But if you bet $100 on -110 odds, you’d win $90.91 for a $190.91 payout.

Moneyline Bets

Moneyline bets are the simplest wagers. You select an event, pick who will win, and if they come through, you get paid based on the moneyline odds. The points don’t matter unless the game can end in a tie. If a tie happens, a moneyline bet is either lost or refunded depending on the terms.

The underdog team or player will have bigger win potential than the favorite team. Usually, the favorite will have minus odds while the underdog has plus odds. But, both teams can have plus or minus odds depending on how tight the game is.

Point Spread Bets

Don’t be thrown off by the plus (+) and minus (-) symbols on a points spread bet. One represents the points spread, the other the odds. If it’s +100 or more or less than -100, you’re looking at the odds.

However, the minus points still represent the favorite. Basically, the favorite team starts with those points subtracted from their score, meaning the favorite has to win by more than the points spread. The plus points represent the underdog, and it’s as if they started the game with points added, like a handicap in golf. That means the underdog either needs to win by fewer points than the spread or win the game outright.

As an example, let’s use an NFL points spread between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles. Here’s how that points spread might look:

  • Giants -6.5 (-110)
  • Eagles +6.5 (-110)

For the Giants bet to win (odds -110), the team would need to win by at least seven points. For the Eagles bet to win, the team would need to either win the game or lose by six points or fewer. So let’s say the game ended like this:

  • Giants: 27
  • Eagles: 21

Even though the Giants won the game, the Giants points spread bet lost, because they only won by six (on a 6.5-point spread). If you bet on the Eagles points spread, you’d win the bet, because the team lost within the 6.5-point spread.

Over/Under Bet

An over/under bet, also known as a totals bet, can be won no matter which team wins. The sportsbook will guess the total number of points scored in a game, and you can wager either over or under that total. If it’s exact, the sportsbook will refund the bet, which is why they’ll usually set a half-point total.

Let’s use the Giants vs. Eagles game as an example again. The sportsbook might put the total at 40.5 points. If you bet the over and the game ended with a combined score of 41 points, you win. But if you bet the under, you lost.

Prop Bets

These are often considered the “fun” bets. Proposition bets, or props, are often exotic bets with little or no impact on the actual outcome of a game. Props are essentially gamblers betting on whether or not something will happen, such as the total number of throwing yards by an NFL quarterback or which team will score first in an NBA game.

Things get even more interesting for Super Bowl prop bets. In New Jersey, you can bet on the coin flip, the length of the National Anthem, and other off-field occurrences. You can even bet on the color of the winning coach’s post-game Gatorade bath.

Parlay Bets

NJ online sports bettors love parlay betting. It’s one of the most popular options, and for good reason: the payouts can be astronomical. Even just a $10 wager can pay out over $1,000 if all the legs of a parlay hit.

And therein lies the catch. Parlay bets involve combining more than one bet in a single wager. All bets (called “legs”) in a parlay must win for the parlay to pay.

Nothing comes easy in parlay betting, however. The reason parlays come with huge payouts is because picking multiple winners is very hard to do. Even a three-leg NFL parlay on three favorites loses more often than not.

New Jersey sports betting apps offer tons of parlay promotions, including risk-free parlays where you get your wager back if one of the legs loses. Another cool feature is the same-game parlay, where you combine multiple bets from the same event into a single wager. For example, a three-leg NFL same-game parlay could be on the moneyline, over/under, and a prop bet.

Futures Bets

Futures bets are long-term wagers that may take place over an entire season. Common futures bets include betting on an MLB team to win the NLDS, NLCS, or the World Series. These bets start long before the season begins, and the odds can change dramatically based on trades, free agencies, team form, and injuries. Sports are unpredictable, particularly over the length of an entire year. As a result, futures bets generally pay big odds, even during the postseason.

What New Jersey Teams Can I Bet On?

When it comes to NJ online sports betting, Garden State bettors tend to back teams in neighboring markets. Yes, the Giants and Jets both play home games at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands, but they are technically New York teams.

Take a ride south on the NJ Turnpike and the diehard Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies bettors are not hard to find (yes, no matter how well the teams are doing). With this in mind, there are plenty of local pro sports teams to wager on via your favorite NJ online sportsbook app.

NFL Betting In New Jersey

New York Jets

After seasons of mediocrity, the Jets may have finally found their pilot in QB Zach Wilson. Paired with strong players in their skill positions, the Jets continue to search for another Super Bowl, patiently waiting since 1969. Could they be a good bet to make as they continue their upwards trajectory? Only time will tell.

New York Giants

Of the three NFL teams on this list, the New York Giants own the most Super Bowl titles with four. Many fans consider the most memorable to be when the G-Men spoiled the perfect season for Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII. However, when it comes to the NFC East, there never tends to be a dull moment. The Giants have rivalries with the Eagles, Cowboys, and Commanders, which rank among the strongest in all of pro sports.

Philadelphia Eagles

Nobody will argue that the greatest moment in Eagles franchise history came during the 2017 season when quarterback Nick Foles led the Philadelphia Eagles to a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 52. The only bad thing about the timing was NJ sports betting was still a work in progress (the first legal bet was placed in June 2018). After waiting a lifetime for the first Vince Lombardi trophy, Birds fans are wondering how long it will be before the next opportunity comes. In the meantime, enjoy the Eagles sports betting odds boosters and promotions flying in every week during the 2024-23 NFL Season.

MLB Betting In New Jersey

Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies championship odds have historically been on the long side, as World Series titles are a rarity. The team has only won two in franchise history (2008 and 1980). Betting on the Phils to finish the regular season with a winning record was historically a risky bet as well, up until more recently. Since winning their last World Series title, Philadelphia has finished above .500 four times, with the 2024 season (.537) being the most recent.

New York Mets

Like their NL East rival above, winning seasons and World Series titles have not come easy for the Mets. Based in Queens, the team has won just two with the most recent being the 1986 season. However, new owner Steven Cohen, who purchased the team for $2.4 billion in early 2021, is ready to do what it takes to help New York become a National League and World Series contender.

New York Yankees

There is an easy way to sum up one of the most popular and storied franchises in all of pro sports: 27 World Series titles. Names like Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, and Mariano Rivera provide just a small sampling of the all-time greats who have played significant roles in making the Bronx Bombers what they are today. The bottom line bettors will back the Yankees, even during a down season.

NBA Betting In New Jersey

Brooklyn Nets

Previously known as the New Jersey Nets when they played home games in the Meadowlands, the franchise relocated to Brooklyn starting with the 2012 season. The Nets are now a big draw for some of the game’s top players like All-Star Kevin Durant. Assuming Kyrie Irving can stay on the court despite his controversies, the Nets will remain a big NBA futures liability for NJ online sportsbooks.

New York Knicks

The Knicks call Madison Square Garden—the world’s most famous arena—home, where Hollywood director/producer Spike Lee is a regular at home games. While the Knicks continue to make moves to attempt to solidify their future and find their star, it should be interesting to see how betting odds react.

Philadelphia 76ers

The Sixers franchise, with NBA MVP candidate Joel Embiid as their centerpiece, remains in hot pursuit of its first NBA championship since 1983. Yes, we are talking about the days when Julius “Dr. J” Erving and Moses Malone were the stars. Philadelphia is currently one of the Eastern Conference teams to watch, along with the Celtics and Bucks. However, bettors will likely be much happier if and when the 76ers finally end their championship drought.

NHL Betting In New Jersey

New Jersey Devils

Unlike the other pro sports teams mentioned here, the Devils actually represent the New Jersey market, with the state in their name and playing at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The team has won three Stanley Cup titles, the most recent of which came during the 1999-2000 season. Fittingly, the Devils will forever be part of NJ sports betting trivia. (For the first legal sports bet in state history, Gov. Phil Murphy wagered $20 on them to win the Stanley Cup on June 14, 2018). Unfortunately, it ended up being a losing bet for the governor.

Philadelphia Flyers

One day in the hopefully not-too-distant future, Philadelphia Flyers bettors will make a futures wager and see it pay off. With Tortorella freshly at the helm, the Flyers should start to see some progress, but they’re still in a transition period. However, part of the sports betting fun is risking a few bucks for a potentially big payout. That’s why they call it gambling.

New York Rangers

This NHL team is the other franchise that calls Madison Square Garden, or simply The Garden, home. After qualifying for the Conference Finals for the first time since 2014-15, optimism is at a high. And like Philadelphia, New York fans and bettors are passionate about their teams. So don’t expect a Rangers betting freeze anytime soon.

Soccer Betting

Unlike Europe, soccer betting isn’t known for generating a big handle for NJ online sportsbook operators. However, the Philadelphia Union, New York Red Bulls, and New York City FC all represent the area in the MLS. Like other pro sports, there is moneyline, spread, and total goals betting for these games as well as a variety of prop bets.

Why Can’t I Bet On College Teams In New Jersey?

While it seems like New Jersey permits wagering on just about every major sport and some of the bigger entertainment events, there are still a couple of big no-nos. If a sportsbook operator is caught posting odds on the forbidden teams and events, it’s almost a guarantee the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement will crack down.

We are of course talking about posting odds or accepting wagers on New Jersey college teams. Princeton, Rutgers, and Seton Hall universities are the three biggest names on this list. Yes, it includes college bowl games and the NCAA Tournament. By the way, college sporting events taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall, or anywhere else in NJ are currently off-limits as well.

NJ Sports Betting FAQ

Is online sports betting legal in New Jersey?

Yes. Online sports betting is fully legal and regulated in New Jersey. The Garden State has a huge selection of online betting apps. Just be sure they feature the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE) logo, as that guarantees the site is safe and secure.

The law gives the NJDGE the authority to set sports betting regulations, issue operator licenses, and provide oversight in the industry. Any sports betting site outside of that jurisdiction is unsafe.

Do you have to live in New Jersey to bet online?
