Is PokerStars New Jersey Legit?
It is fully licensed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, with a physical presence in New Jersey due to its partnership with Atlantic City-based Resorts Casino. PokerStars also has legal and regulated online poker rooms in Pennsylvania and Michigan, which currently operate independently from the New Jersey entity. There are plans for these states to commingle player pools in the near future, so stay tuned.
Why Choose PokerStars Poker App Over Illegal Online Poker Sites?
Most players verify their online accounts electronically, by submitting the Player Registration Form which requires potential players to provide personal details including name, address, and zip code as well as the last four digits of their Social Security number (SSN). The player account can also be verified manually. However, players must attempt electronic verification at least one time prior to opting for the manual option. Manual verification is performed by submitting a copy of a government-issued photo ID and either a copy of the player’s Social Security card or signed W-9 form.
These steps ensure that players are distinct individuals (one account per person), and are US citizens. Players do not have to live in New Jersey to play PokerStars, they only have to be physically in the state at the time of play. Illegal and unregulated online poker sites can allow for player collusion by allowing individuals to have more than one account. Knowing that each player on PokerStars is one distinct individual, who is well-documented helps alleviate any uncertainty that would be found playing other sites.
