[toc]New Jersey is still waiting to hear whether it can legalize single-game sports betting in its case before the US Supreme Court.
In the interim, adults in the state can bet on sports in a different way, in something that is kind of like fantasy sports but looks and feels like parlay wagering.
Here comes FastPick, fantasy sports betting
Resorts Atlantic City launch a “fantasy sports” game on Monday. But the game is not at all like the daily fantasy games that you might find at DraftKings and FanDuel.
The product is called FastPick, and has been approved by state regulators as a legal game of skill. It’s the first casino in the state to formally offer a fantasy sports-style game.
“We’ve designed the platform to accommodate all sports fans who want to get a piece of the action but don’t have the time to compete effectively against the traditional ‘professional’ DFS players,” said Ed Andrewes, president of EA Gaming Consultancy Company, lead consultant to Resorts Digital Gaming. “We couldn’t be more excited to introduce the next generation of fantasy sports.”
Anyone who is physically located in the state can play at FastPick online, after they have created an account and deposited money. (PayPal is available to users.)
The site was created in partnership with Sport Analytics and Data Corp. and FSB Technology.
How FastPick works
Users don’t pick a roster of players to compete against other users for cash prizes, like traditional DFS contests.
Instead users play against the house by picking players in a series of matchups. A user will pick a player from three to ten different matchups, picking which player they believe will score more fantasy sports.
The user bets on their picks being correct, from $10 to $200; they win cash if all of their selections are correct. The more matchups selected, the bigger the possible prize. The top prize with a maximum bet and 10-player parlay is $100,000.

What’s next for FastPick?
FastPick will be added to the Resorts online casino later this month. It will also be available in the physical casino later in 2017, via kiosks.
The whole operation is a lot like parlay prop betting, but is being run — legally — under the language that also makes DFS legal under federal and state laws. You may see the product — possibly under a different name — at other NJ online casinos or in other states with fantasy sports laws on the books.
