New Jersey Online Casino Revenue Is a Big Three Story

New Jersey online casino revenue perfectly tells the Big Three story. Its iGaming revenue puts it in the top three states. Plus, three of its legal online gambling operators hold the plurality of the US online casino market share.

That story retold itself on Thursday when the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) released October’s gross gaming revenue (GGR).

New Jersey online casino gamblers brought in $145 million in GGR. Online poker players raised the iGaming revenue total to $147 million.

However, that wasn’t enough to beat Pennsylvania’s $152 million. That may change this month, though. Because the Garden State vies with Michigan and Pennsylvania each month for the title of No. 1 in GGR.

Continuing with that theme, New Jersey also contains the Big Three online casino operators:

Just as they do across the nation, the operators or their affiliated brands hold the top market shares.

Sites on Borgata’s License Are 30% of New Jersey iGaming Market

MGM Resorts International owns half of the online gambling operator BetMGM and all of the retail casino Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa. (Entain owns the other half of BetMGM.)

BetMGM holds the plurality of US online casino market share, at 31% during Q3 2024, Entain CEO Jette Nygaard-Andersen said during the earnings call on Oct. 13.

So Borgata being No. 1 in New Jersey makes sense.

Also, part of the reason Borgata’s sites hold 30% of the New Jersey iGaming market share is that there are 10 of them – six are casinos and four are poker sites.

BetMGM Casino and BetMGM Poker are on the Borgata casino’s license, as well as other MGM brands. Borgata Casino, Borgata Poker, PartyCasino, and PartyPoker are there.

The casino also partners with non-MGM and Entain brands:

  • PalaBingoUSA
  • PalaCasino
  • PalaPoker
  • ScoresCasino

However, BetMGM accounted for $39 million of Borgata’s $41 million in GGR during October.

Golden Nugget, Resorts Round Out Top Three Licenses

Borgata is No. 1 in New Jersey online casino market share. Golden Nugget Atlantic City Hotel, Casino, and Marina sits at No. 2, with 27% of New Jersey’s iGaming GGR and Resorts Casino Hotel Atlantic City comes in third, with 23%.

During October, Golden Nugget’s GGR was $38 million, with its top-earning sites – FanDuel Casino and Stardust Casino – generating $20 million.

Flutter Entertainment, the primary owner of FanDuel, held an event on Wednesday in which brand leaders said FanDuel Sportsbook is the No. 1 sports betting operator in the nation and FanDuel Casino is No. 3.

Indeed, FanDuel Casino holds third place in New Jersey, as well.

DraftKings Casino is in second place at $29 million during October, according to the DGE.

However, even though DraftKings owns Golden Nugget Online Gaming (GNOG), DraftKings is on the Resorts license.

That means Golden Nugget Casino shares a license with competitor FanDuel in New Jersey. (BetRivers and Betway also partner with the Golden Nugget retail casino, so the irony of competitors on the same license continues.)

Finishing up the Big Three comparison, Resorts Casino Hotel’s October GGR was third in the state among license holders, at $39 million.
