No month in the five-year history of New Jersey gambling sites compares with what occurred in October.
For the first time since the Garden State industry launched in 2013, NJ online gambling combined for more than $26 million in online gross revenue, according to figures released Thursday by the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement.
The month’s total of $26,753,878 topped the $25.9 million reported in July.
Even poker jumped in revenue month-to-month, up nearly $45,000 to October’s $1,653,746.
Suffice it to say, Atlantic City casinos and their online counterparts have found a rhythm.
Once again, records abound for NJ gambling sites
Throughout the calendar year, NJ online casinos have rewritten the industry’s record books.
Even July’s head-turning numbers, as seemingly unbreakable as they appeared, have gone by the wayside.
October’s revenue numbers increased by more than $6 million year-over-year, reflecting a 30.1 percent spike.
Despite poker being down 14.5 percent from 2017, NJ online casinos used a strong month to up the year-to-date revenue to $242,748,565, an 18.9 percent jump from this point last year.
Golden Nugget online gambling also sets a record
No shock here: Golden Nugget once again reigns supreme in the revenue ranks.
Perhaps only slightly surprising: Golden Nugget has inched closer to a $10 million month.
With a 57.6 percent year-over-year increase, Golden Nugget reported an astounding $9,674,550 in October. After narrowly missing the record in September, Golden Nugget raced past the previous best of $9.3 million the casino set in July.
Borgata enjoyed a slight bump year-over-year, a 4.4 percent increase to $4,364,770 last month. Close behind, Caesars reported $3,908,154 in October, reflecting an 18 percent spike from 2017.
As for the remaining online casinos and their October revenue numbers:
- Tropicana: $3,705,489
- Resorts Atlantic City: $3,488,800
- Hard Rock Atlantic City: $1,016,822
- Ocean Resort: $595,293
Of note, Hard Rock’s revenue total last month nearly matched its previous two combined months. Ocean Resort, meanwhile, had its best month by far, an October total that sits $209,000 more than its previous best.
NJ online poker gets a bump
In September, online poker in New Jersey generated just $1.6 million, the leanest month since the industry kicked off five years ago.
A month later, poker revenue rose to $1,653,746, only the second time since May that peer-to-peer revenue increased. That said, the total reflects a 14.5 percent decrease year-over-year.
Individually, Resorts jumped more than $100,000 from September for an October total of $640,548. Caesars reported $606,116, down more than $65,000 month-to-month. And Borgata rounded out poker with $407,082.
NJ mobile sports betting takes hold
After the DGE released September’s financials, director David Rebuck noted the influence of a growing NJ sports betting industry.
“Driven by the explosive growth in sports wagering and continuing improvements in Internet gaming and brick-and-mortar casino win results, the gaming industry produced another month of superb revenue increases.”
Certainly the same could be said for October. After all, sportsbooks in the Garden State combined for a whopping $260 million in handle last month.
The presence of an ever-expanding mobile market has helped the push. Of that total handle, eight mobile products accounted for two-thirds of the handle.
While NJ sports betting continues to grow, online gambling as a whole in New Jersey, it seems, should follow a similar trend.
