Golden Nugget Poker Room Finds A New Home, And A Sportsbook May Take Its Place

Where there once was wine and Wi-Fi, there will now be a poker room.

Golden Nugget Atlantic City is in the process of moving its poker haven, The Poker Room, to the fourth floor where it will replace Wine & Wifi, a lounge-style area with self-serve wine dispensers in the walls.

The casino closed the poker room on Aug. 1 and will have a grand re-opening this Friday. Golden Nugget’s website says the move from the third to the fourth floor is meant to “improve the customer experience.”

And if that’s true, then what is anticipated to replace the old poker room should make a lot of Golden Nugget visitors happy.

What’s in the cards? A new poker room … and a sportsbook

Golden Nugget announced the re-opening of the poker room at its new location via Twitter:

But according to a comment conversation on the casino’s Facebook page, Golden Nugget chose to move the poker room to the fourth floor to make room for a sports betting area on the third floor, aka the casino floor.

When asked on Facebook whether the move was to make room for a sportsbook, Golden Nugget’s emphatic reply was “You got it!”

Golden Nugget AC could not be reached for comment.

As NJ sports betting is the premier topic of conversation in Atlantic City these days, one could say that The Poker Room’s move to the fourth floor is a sideshow compared to Golden Nugget’s forthcoming sportsbook.

The road to sports betting at Golden Nugget

Back in June, when casinos were making their moves to get the regulatory thumbs-up to operate sportsbooks, Golden Nugget was in a tough spot.

Owner Tilman Fertitta is also the owner of the NBA’s Houston Rockets, a reality that presented an untenable conflict of interest with New Jersey’s newly minted sports betting laws.

However, the casino and state lawmakers came to a peaceful agreement. The Nugget can take single-game bets for every league except the NBA. Then in July, Golden Nugget put its name in the sports betting hat officially with the NJ Division of Gaming Enforcement.

When exactly Golden Nugget will launch its physical or its mobile sports betting offering is still a mystery. But the Golden Nugget poker room move is a sure sign something is in the works.

Back to the new Golden Nugget poker room

Judging by the photos shared on Facebook and Twitter, the new poker room is nice upgrade. When the poker room does finally open in its new spot it will feature free Wi-Fi and tableside food service at 10 tables while spreading a few poker games including:

  • Texas Hold’em No-Limit (1/3 and 2/5)
  • Pot Limit Omaha
  • Texas Hold’em 3/6 Limit

Golden Nugget is also offering 2x comps every Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to midnight. And players can earn a free buffet when logging four hours of play at a cash game table on Friday and Saturday and three hours at a cash game on Sunday through Thursday.

The poker room will host the following promotions, too:

  • Splash The Pot
  • High Hand featuring our Money Wheel
  • Rake back

So get ready for a new poker room at Golden Nugget AC… and stay tuned on the possible Golden Nugget Sportsbook.
